Diminutive TV presenter Gail Porter tied the knot today with Toploader guitarist Dan Hipgrave in her home town of Edinburgh. The 30-year-old Top Of The Pops presenter, who wore a silver Ronit Zilka silk sequin-encrusted dress for the civil ceremony, says she will adopt her husband’s surname.
“Once I’m married I’d quite like to be known simply as Hipgrave, one word, or just Gail,” she explained. “Hipgrave is an all right surname, it’s quite funny.” Although she will be taking her husband’s name, the rest of the wedding arrangements have been far from traditional.
The controversy started when the couple sent out invitations to their big day – by text message – and Gail’s grandfather threatened to boycott the event if he didn't receive a more formal mode of invite.
Gail’s father Craig, who is divorced from her mother Sandra, was present at the nuptials, but did not give her away – instead, Gail’s brother Keith did the honours.
The presenter shot to fame after a picture of her posing naked was projected onto the House of Commons, but says she has "calmed down" since meeting Dan. She has promised not to do any more raunchy photo shoots, for starters.
