Although August is generally a quiet month for celebrity showings, the third annual Teen Choice Awards in LA garnered its fair share of famous faces – and some of them went home with awards, voted for by the readers of Seventeen magazine.
Britney Spears walked off with the title of favourite female artist ahead of Jessica Simpson. Collecting the award, a snazzy surfboard rather than the traditional gong to put on the mantelpiece, the pop princess said: “Thank you so much for doing this for me. It’s just such an honour being voted by my peers.” Her other half’s band, ’NSync, did not leave empty-handed, winning the best single and album categories.
Other guests included former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson, in an eye-catching denim ensemble, and a very casually-dressed all-singin’, all-dancin’ Jennifer Lopez, whose diamond ring given to her by boyfriend Cris Judd didn’t just sparkle, it positively shone.
But the surprise of the evening came when Ben Affleck, currently in rehab for alcoholism, got up on stage to pick up two awards, including one for best actor. “I actually wasn’t going to be here,” the Pearl Harbor star said, “but I felt like it was important, because this actually means a lot to me because it’s voted on by you guys.”
Other guests included actress Sandra Bullock, R´n´B trio Destiny’s Child, evergreen rockers Aerosmith and Buffy The Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar, who won the extraordinary achievement award. “I’m honoured that all of you guys think I’m a role model,” she said. “So believe in yourself and go for it.”
