A piece of Hollywood history went up for sale this week when Frank Sinatra’s Los Angeles mansion was put on the market. The Rat Pack star’s widow Barbara is asking upwards of £8 million for the famous home and one-time playground of the elite, and insiders expect she’ll likely pocket even more from the sale.
The Sunset Boulevard abode boasts a spa, gym, guest suite, outdoor fireplace, a waterfall, a pool, a piano Sinatra himself played and a whopping 14 rooms. However, the main attraction may be the home’s guest book.
“You recognise every name as world famous people,” says estate agent Jeff Hyland of the book.“The Pecks, the Annenbergs, the Wilders. You name them and all those people were here.”
“At a party celebrating Frank Sinatra’s 80th birthday he had Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen there,” says Hyland in awe. “The three of them were around the piano playing and singing.”
The mansion is being sold with all of the furniture left in place, allowing one to play cards where Old Blue Eyes sat for his famous weekly games.
The final sale price is expected to easily surpass the asking bid, and with good reason. The house is entirely hiddden from the street and features electric gates which open on to a private driveway. The master suite includes both his and hers baths and dressing rooms, and one can stroll through the mansion’s art gallery at their leisure.
The legendary singer made the home his own in the late Eighties and lived there until his death in May 1998. The sale is being conducted by Hilton & Hyland in conjunction with Christie’s Great Estates.
