The unlikely trio of Paul McCartney, Pamela Anderson and Alec Baldwin hosted the People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals 21st annual Humanitarian Awards ceremony on Saturday night in New York. The organisation convened at the famed Waldorf-Astoria hotel for a dinner honouring South African beauty Charlize Theron and rocker Chrissie Hynde, as well as TV presenter Bill Maher and Def Jam records founder Russell Simmons.

Macca presented The Pretenders singer with the Linda McCartney Memorial Award, saying her work for animals “sent shivers down the spines of their abusers”. Chrissie, who was arrested last year for protesting the Gap’s use of leather from India, thanked her friend Paul who gave her her first veggie burger back when she was a “brown-rice hippie”.

Paul, however, didn’t leave the dinner empty-handed. The Wings front man received a humanitarian award, saying: “I share this with Linda”. The legendary Beatle was joined by his fiancée Heather Mills.

However, Paul and Heather weren’t the only high-profile couple on display. Former Baywatch beauty Pamela was accompanied by her boyfriend, MTV favourite Kid Rock, who demonstrated his quick wit outside the ceremony. When someone asked what Pamela was wearing, the rocker answered for her: “Not much!”
