A couple of familiar faces will be making their appearance at the fictional Boston law firm of Cage Fish and Associates soon, with music legend Elton John and rock singer Jon Bon Jovi due to appear in the new series of US TV show Ally McBeal.

Producer David E Kelley says he is “thrilled” to have Elton take part in the programme. "Ever since I was young, I've been a fan of Elton John's,” he says. Though the appearance has been secured, it is unclear whether Sir Elton has signed for a recurring role or simply a guest shot in just one episode. A spokesperson revealed little, saying the musician “will be performing a series of songs in the show and is appearing as himself.”

It is said the singer was persuaded to join the series by former Ally star Robert Downey Jr, who is featured in the video for Elton’s new single, I Want Love.

Meanwhile, handsome rocker Jon Bon Jovi is in negotiations to play quirky Ally’s new love interest, replacing Robert, who was written out of the Boston-based comedy after a number of real life drug-related incidents. The One Wild Night singer has already made the transition from singing to acting, appearing in films such as U-571 and Pay It Forward.

It won’t be the first time the hit show has featured rock stars - former Police front man Sting played himself in one episode, where he was sued by a man whose wife was infatuated with the hunky musician.
