Victoria Beckham has spoken of her aspirations for son Brooklyn, saying she hopes he plays football like his father, England captain David Beckham, rather than following in her footsteps and having a career as a singer.

“He thinks all Daddies play football and all Mummies appear on Top Of The Pops,” the Spice Girl said in a radio interview yesterday. “But if I had to make the choice I’d rather he were a footballer than a singer.”

Posh talked a lot about her son, who was born in March 1999, as well as the couple’s hands-on attitude to parenting. “Brooklyn doesn’t sleep very well so we take it in turns to get up early. We are very modern parents and both go out with sick on our shoulders.”

She also admitted Brooklyn ran the risk of becoming a spoilt child. “Yeah, of course I realise the danger,” said the singer. “But his first words were ‘Mummy’, ‘Daddy’, ‘please’ and ‘thank you’. He is very privileged but not spoilt. I don’t want a nightmare brat on my hands."
