TV presenter Ally McCoist admitted to an affair with actress Patsy Kensit on Thursday following newspaper reports claiming the two had spent several passionate nights together in a London hotel. The 39-year-old former football hero said he had been a “complete fool” and now hopes to save his 11-year marriage.

Emerging from his £1 million Renfrewshire mansion on Thursday morning, the father-of-three looked tired and drawn. “I have been a complete fool,” he admitted. “The only thing that matters now is my wife Allison and the three boys… If it’s at all possible we would appreciate a little privacy in the hope that we can sort things out.”

Ally, a former Rangers and Scotland striker, had enjoyed a ten-year friendship with Patsy. However, after her marriage to Oasis rocker Liam Gallagher fell apart, the long-time friends reportedly engaged in some less than platonic behaviour. “Ally’s marriage has been rocky for a long time,” reports one insider. “It’s always been unconventional. He’s always had an eye for the ladies… But this thing with Patsy is different. It’s a love thing. He feels very strongly about her. And she feels the same way about him.”

Some say three-times-married Pasty was so in love with the TV heart-throb that she herself leaked the story of their clandestine evenings in the hopes that he would leave his family. However, that now seems unlikely. After the romance was made public, he retreated to his home and Patsy’s manager issued this statement: “Patsy Kensit is entirely focused on her sons and her work, and her friendship with Ally McCoist is over.

“Everything is fine,” said Mrs McCoist, a former beauty queen, on Thursday. “I haven’t seen the papers this morning but Ally’s here with me.” Ally and Allison met 20 years ago when he was a rising star for St Johnstone, and the two have been together ever since. The couple have three sons: Alex, six, and three-year-old twins Mitchell and Argyll.

Ally has cancelled all upcoming publicity events, including the Saturday premiere of Robert Duvall’s film A Shot At Glory in which the TV presenter makes his acting debut.
