Newlyweds Jennifer Lopez and choreographer Cris Judd breezed into the Versace fashion show in Milan on Tuesday bringing with them the glitz and glam that had thus far been lacking from a less-than-star-packed fashion week. The stunning couple, who wed in a hush-hush weekend ceremony in LA, were later feted by the famed designer at a 150-person gala and are said to be honeymooning at Donatella Versace’s luxury villa at nearby Lake Como.
Donatella spared no expense on the evening bash, held in honour of J Lo’s nuptials. Over 100 waiters served champagne to guests in a garden filled with more than 3,000 roses. Members of the fashion elite drank to the couple’s success by the light of 1,000 golden candles.
Jennifer and Cris jetted off to Milan for the start of their honeymoon at the invitation of close friend and Versace mastermind Donatella. “She has been very generous to say we could come and stay with her,” said the singer and movie star. “We just couldn’t turn it down.”
And though busy with Milan fashion week, Donatella was keen to ensure the couple’s time in Italy truly memorable. “I want to make sure Jennifer and Cris feel like they are in paradise,” said the designer. “Our house here has a tradition of newlywed guests. Madonna and her husband were here, as were Sting and his wife.”
On Tuesday, Donatella presented her spring/summer 2002 collection to rave reviews. The new designs feature the house of Versace’s trademark flamboyance and include sequined eveningwear and many bare back numbers. Jennifer, a fan of Donatella’s since she wore that now infamous barely-there gown to the 2000 Grammy awards, praised the collection, saying: “It brought some bright beauty in the middle of all this darkness.”
“Everyone knows I love fashion. I don’t think that’s a secret” says the latina star. “As for Versace, I think it’s really sexy, very feminine.”
