Atomic Kitten vocalist Liz McLarnon has cancelled her wedding to childhood sweetheart Tommy Hibbs. "We'd been together for a long time but being in the band has taken its toll,” said the singer, whose band recently went to number one in the charts with Eternal Flame.
“Our schedule over the past few months has been unbelievable and it got to a point where I hardly saw Tommy at all, but we are still the best of friends. And, who knows, one day we'll be able to sort this out. For now, I'm sad to say that we're no longer together."
The couple, who met when Liz was just 14, had been together for over four years when the pressure of her pop career took its toll on the relationship. Earlier this year, Liz and warehouse manager Tommy had planned to buy an apartment together in the docklands area of their home town, Liverpool.
At the time of their engagement, Liz spoke of her feelings for her childhood love: "My source of comfort comes from my fiance Tommy. We got engaged because I wanted some security. People in the music business are always trying to split us up. They said I would forget him when the band took off - he's even been described as my toy boy - but the truth is I love him more than anything in the world."
Despite the turmoil in her personal life, Liz put in an appearence at the launch of the new Steps album on Monday along with band-mates Jenny Frost and Natasha Hamilton.
