POSH SACKS MANAGER AMID RUMOURS OF A SPICE GIRLS SPLIT

Victoria Beckham has parted company with her manager, after a disappointing start to her solo career. The singer sacked Nancy Phillips because she feels her employee has let her become “overexposed” in recent months.

Mrs Beckham’s autobiography, Learning To Fly, was serialised in HELLO!, and was put on sale at the same time as her single, Not Such An Innocent Girl, and her eponymous solo album. But although the book has been flying off the shelves, Victoria’s musical offerings are languishing in the lower reaches of the charts. The album is expected to drop out of the Top 50 this weekend, an embarrassment for both the singer and her record label, which spent around £5 million on making and promoting the product.

Posh’s album sold a mere 3,000 copies last week – “Someone had to take the blame,” said a source close to Victoria. “And that someone was Nancy.” But the music world is seeing it differently. “It is not Nancy’s fault at all necessarily,” said an insider. “You might want to ask the people who claim to be the musical talent about the flop rather than blame the manager. But it’s not always a fair world and these things happen.”

There are also rumours – the strongest yet – that the girl group that launched Victoria to stardom, the Spice Girls, is dead in the water. According to sources close to the band, the internecine squabbling has become so bad that the four will not even meet up as a group.

Although you might think that this would be the perfect moment to release a statement confirming that the Spices are no more, Posh, Scary, Sporty and Baby can’t even agree on that, insiders say. The main row is between Scary and Posh, because Mel B feels that Victoria, whose son Brooklyn is just two weeks younger than her bandmate’s daughter Phoenix Chi, did not show her enough sympathy after Scary was dropped by their label Virgin.

Rumours abound that the Spice Girls are no more - although the four surviving members can't even agree on whether they should make it official or not. Posh, Scary, Sporty and Baby only made £20,000 each last year
