Tennis superstars Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf wed in a hush-hush ceremony on Monday in Las Vegas, ending months of speculation surrounding when the two would tie the knot. The couple walked down the aisle in a private ceremony amongst close friends and family, contradicting earlier reports that they would wait until after the birth of their first child in December before making it official.
“We are so blessed to be married and starting this chapter of our lives,” the couple said in a joint statement. “The privacy and intimacy of our ceremony was beautiful and reflective of all we value.”
Andre – who was at one time linked to diva Barbra Streisand – had been scheduled to play in the Swiss Indoors tournament in Basel over the weekend, but pulled out at the last minute without an explanation. The Swiss press claimed the 31-year-old champ was “overtired”. However, it now seems Andre simply had other plans.
The newlyweds first started dating back in 1999 shortly after Andre took home the French Open title – a win which made him only the fifth male player in tennis history to capture all four of the Grand Slam titles.
The Monday affair was Andre’s second trip to the altar. He famously wed actress Brooke Shields in 1997 but the two parted ways just two years later. This is 32-year-old Steffi’s first marriage. There is no word on where the two will honeymoon.
