Spanish stunner Penelope Cruz is the envy of women worldwide having snagged both Mission Impossible hunk Tom Cruise and a series of high-profile Hollywood roles. And now she’s melting hearts at London’s Madame Tussaud’s wax museum.
The famed tourist spot unveiled its waxwork of the Blow beauty this week, much to the delight of museum goers. “She’s a huge hit, especially with the men,” reports Madame Tussaud’s spokeswoman Fiona Pirrie. “They’re all stopping to have their photos taken with her.”
The image of the sultry star cost £40,000 and took six months to create. “She had a very nice face to do, very pleasant,” said Tracey Lindsay, a hair and colourist supervisor. “I looked at photographs of her, studied them really well, to get the skin tone as close as possible. I think she has come out looking very good.”
US firefighter Brett Kirby would agree. The 37-year-old Kirby, on holiday in London from Connecticut, gave the new exhibit his seal of approval. “She is one of our favourites at the fire station,” he said, aiming a kiss at her cheek as his girlfriend, Joanne, looked on. “She’s really beautiful.”
Lest one forget about Tom’s ex, a likely Oscar contender for either Moulin Rouge or The Others, designers at Madame Tussaud’s have a Nicole Kidman piece in the works.
“Initially the plan was to do the hot Hollywood couple. But we’ll do Nicole because her career is taking off and she’s considered one of the world’s most beautiful women,” said Pirrie. “People still love her.”
A new Tom Cruise lookalike is also under construction to keep Penelope company. In the meantime, look for the two on screen in Vanilla Sky in the coming months.
