After a six-month absence from the public eye, DJ turned media mogul Chris Evans is set to return to the airwaves. The ex-Big Breakfast presenter is in talks to begin a weekly show on Radio 2, the most listened-to station in Europe.
An industry insider confirmed Chris will return to broadcasting with Radio 2 next year, a deal that has all sides pleased. “The station believes it will be an incredible coup,” a source told The Express. “And, for Chris, it is a way to ease himself into the spotlight.”
The ginger-haired star will reportedly be back on the air with a Sunday afternoon show in Spring, 2002. He’ll round out the station’s popular line-up, which includes stars Jonathan Ross and Terry Wogan.
Chris is looking to get his career back on track after being sacked from his last job at Virgin Radio in June. The 36-year-old was let go from the post after he was spotted hitting a string of pubs while missing work for nearly a week. Chris and his teenaged wife, pop singer Billie Piper, have been out of the limelight since the high-profile firing, spending most of their time at his Surrey country estate.
The soon-to-be Radio 2 DJ was back in the headlines last week when he launched an £8.6 million legal action against Virgin, claiming the station unfairly denied him lucrative share options when he left the company.
