Stuart Adamson, former front man of Eighties rock group Big Country, has been found dead. The 43-year-old, who was reported missing three weeks ago, was discovered in a hotel room in Hawaii yesterday, his manager Ian Grant confirmed.
Grant announced the news via his record label’s website, offering few details about the tragedy. “I have no more news other than that at present,” he said. “I have just lost one of the finest people I have ever worked with or been lucky enough to know.”
The singer, who had long battled alcoholism, was reported missing several weeks ago after he left a note for his son which read “Back by noon Sunday”, and was not heard from again. The latest disappearance was the second time in two years that the troubled musician had gone missing.
Stuart grew up in Dunfermline, Fife, and began his career with punk group The Skids before forming Big Country in 1981. The Grammy nominated band, which split last year, scored with their debut album, The Crossing, and went on to record a number of hits in the Eighties. He had been living in Nashville, Tennessee, for the past five years and was estranged from his second wife Melanie.
