Michael Jordan’s wife of 12 years filed for divorce this week citing irreconcilable differences with the basketball legend, who is said to be worth nearly $400 million.
The famed Bulls star retired from the sport in October 1994 and then again in January 1999, both times indicating a desire to spend more time with his family. However, he made a high-profile return to the basketball court in 2001 with the Washington Wizards.
“When you have personal issues, sometimes work is a great avenue to deal with it and move on,” he said. “Things will work out in the long run.” Michael, formerly the president of basketball operations for the Wizards, had shuttled back and forth between Washington DC and Chicago while working as an executive. However, since returning to the game, he has been spending more time in the nation’s capital.
The famed Nike spokesperson met Juanita Jordan, 42, at a restaurant in the Windy City and the two wed on September 2, 1989, in Las Vegas. Juanita is seeking permanent custody of the couple’s three children – Jeffrey, 13, Marcus, 11, and Jasmine, nine – as well as their 25,000-square-foot home in wealthy Highland Park, a suburb of Chicago.
