Acid-tongued TV presenter Anne Robinson was voted fashion’s “weakest link” this week when she topped an American Worst Dressed Woman list. It wasn’t her neo-gothic on screen gear which had the list’s compiler, critic and self proclaimed fashion guru Mr Blackwell in such a tizz, however. It was her choice of clothes off-camera which earned her the description: “Harry Potter in drag. A Hogwart’s horror.”
Just one step behind Anne was teen icon Britney Spears, who was blithely pigeonholed as “a rehashed Madonna on a bad day”. Third place contenders Destiny’s Child fared little better, being defined as “a trilogy of taste-free terror hitting a crescendo of off-peak kitsch. Three peas in a peek-a-boo pod.”
Even Prince Charles’s partner Camilla Parker Bowles was not spared the razor edge of Mr Blackwell’s tongue which has been damning the sartorial efforts of Hollywood stars since 1960. Consigned to the top ten of the list, which usually concentrates on music and movie stars, Camilla was described as packing “the stylistic punch of a dilapidated Yorkshire pudding”.
Others to receive the dubious honour of appearing on the list included Princess Stephanie of Monaco, Cameron Diaz, Kate Hudson and Bjork.
