She’s three months away from the birth of her child, and Liz Hurley is unabashedly enjoying every minute of the process, tossing out her usual diet for crumpets and chocolates. In a self-penned article for this month’s Elle magazine, the 36-year-old actress says she’s thrilled that as her pregnancy has evolved, so has her famous figure.
Liz, who’s been the same weight – “a bit under eight and a half stone” – for years, is now an entirely new woman. She explains: “I’m as buxom and curvaceous as a Thomas Hardy wench and could be a poster girl for Super Weight-On.”
A change in vices initiated by news of her baby joy is partially responsible for the Estee Lauder model’s new silhouette. “I gave up cigarettes, alcohol and coffee the day I found out I was pregnant and now happily dither between having a Crunchie or a Flake instead,” she says. “For someone who has been relatively careful about eating for years it feels almost surreal to be tucking into crumpets for tea again.”
Sex symbol Liz says she grew up a bony teenager, and had always hoped to have the figure with which she is now blessed: “I used to painstakingly fold up Kleenex into the back pockets of my jeans in a vain attempt to give my bottom a curve, and avidly raid my big sister’s magazines for diet tips and then do everything in reverse.”
But Ms Hurley has left behind her days as an awkward teen, and is now giving tips to women on how to adapt a wardrobe to comfortably camouflage their new bumps. She outlines a six-point plan to stay in style, with hints such as wearing low-rise trousers to avoid clothes “cutting into the bulgy bit”. The actress, famed for her revealing, show-stopping outfits, insists “cropped tops lurking in your closet should be burned immediately”.
The Austin Powers star is enjoying her newfound voluptuousness while it lasts, admitting there is no doubt it will be her “mission” to get back to her pre-pregnancy weight after the arrival of her baby. “But for now,” says the mum-to-be, it's a case of “hold the spinach and brown rice – I feel the need for Jaffa Cakes and Ribena.”
