Dynasty actress Joan Collins tied the knot to become “Mrs Percy Gibson” on Sunday, at a wedding attended by a vintage crop of British stars. Dressed a full-length lilac silk gown with a train, the 68-year-old actress could hardly contain her emotion as she exchanged vows with theatre designer Percy, 32 years her junior.
“My wedding day is everything I expected and more,” Joan told the Daily Express after the 45-minute ceremony at Claridges Hotel in London.
About 180 guests attended the wedding, where the dress code specified “glamorous”, including celebrities from stage and screen such as James Bond actor Roger Moore, composer Tim Rice, and television presenter Cilla Black.
“I am over the moon – absolutely delighted,” Percy told the paper. “I still haven’t had time to take it all in. It won’t hit me until later. Joan looked radiant. She took my breath away.”
Following the nuptials, Joan’s spokeswoman, Stella Wilson, emerged to tell the hundreds of well-wishers waiting outside the luxurious London hotel: “Joan Collins is now Mrs Gibson. It was a very emotional ceremony. They exchanged traditional vows. We all cried, including Joan."
Singer Shirley Bassey delighted the fans by turning up in a scarlet gown with matching beret and fur. When asked if she was looking forward to the wedding, Shirley replied: “Of course I am. Why do you think I look like Little Red Riding Hood.”
Sir Elton John’s partner, David Furnish, also attended the ceremony, as did Joan’s three adult children.
Joan has been married four times previously and this is Percy's second walk down the aisle. She met her new husband while touring the US with the play Love Letters last autumn.
