His wife has had one for three years, but only now does one of the most famous footballers on the planet, David Beckham, get his image immortalized in wax. He has spent the last two weeks having extensive sittings at Madame Tussaud’s, London’s legendary wax museum, for the figure, which will be the centerpiece of a new attraction entitled Goal!, celebrating some of football's most memorable moments.
More than 200 measurements were needed to perfect the exhibit of David’s nail-biting, extra-time equalizer against Greece last October, which put England into the World Cup finals. And to help visitors share the tension of the moment, David’s waxwork has been given a unique feature – a beating heart.
“We wanted to create an attraction that captured the drama and emotion of football and to celebrate the achievements of the England team,” said Madame Tussaud's managing director Bruce McKendrick. “We are creating an opportunity for our guests to relive the moment, to feel the anticipation and tension as the kick is about to be taken and to remember their joy as the ball hit the back of the net.”
Goal! will feature a variety of waxworks – including one of another English hero, England coach Sven Goran Eriksson - as well as videos, music, and memorabilia. The attraction is scheduled to open before Easter.
The announcement comes in the same week that David’s wife Victoria, who became a Tussaud model in 1999, revealed that the couple is expecting their second child.
