Having made his pile in the media – following the sale of his Ginger Media Group two years ago, his fortune is estimated at £50 million – Chris Evans seem to have set his sights on the property market.

The latest acquisition to his growing portfolio is a £6-million mansion in the Hollywood Hills, which will serve as a base for him and 19-year-old wife Billy Piper as Chris negotiates TV work in the US.

The ginger-haired British tycoon already owns a £6.5 million manor house in Surrey, a £1 million flat in London’s swanky Belgravia area and two villas on Portugal’s Algarve which he is currently having converted into a single residence.

“Chris adores property,” said a friend. “And he is never able to sit still and enjoy a house once he has bought it. He always wants to do it up and move on. And he makes a huge profit every time. He hardly ever invests his money badly.”

Chris, who was famously sacked from Virgin Radio in June last year, spent two weeks house hunting with Billy before plumping for the modern £2 million property in Beverly Hills. “We wanted somewhere with great views,” he said. “We looked at several houses, but went back to this one a few times and decided it was what we wanted.”

And it looks like the couple will be spending more time Stateside from now on. Chris is apparently full of ideas for new TV shows which he believes would go down well on the other side of the pond. “This town’s great,” he said of Los Angeles.

“The weather is good and the people are nice. There isn’t any other place like it. Who wouldn’t want to live here?”

Last year the pair scouted out Florida, spending two months sizing it up as a possible base. But in the end the decided the West Coast city offered more job opportunities.

A source close to the couple says: “They have fallen in love with Los Angeles and plan to make it their permanent home.”
