Aussie pop princess Kylie Minogue offered some sisterly advice on how to deal with the difficulties of fame to Britney Spears on Wednesday, after the American singer was blasted by critics for failing to sign autographs at the London premiere of her debut film Crossroads.
Britney was booed and hissed by fans at the Odeon Theatre in Leicester Square on Monday, as her PRs ushered her into the cinema because of what a spokesman for the singer later described as “security fears”.
Thirty-three-year-old Kylie expressed her empathy with Britney, 20, saying she knew how hard it was to deal with a crowd. “I’ve been there and it is really hard to get to everyone,” she said. “Even if they have been waiting eight hours you won’t necessarily be able to get to everyone. I’ve been in that position where other people push you from one place to another.”
Kylie agreed that Britney had been placed in a difficult situation, but said she needed more experienced people around her to assess such eventualities. “Her PRs pushed her in the wrong direction,” said the Aussie singer. “She has been misguided. Britney has been in the business a long time and she should know the ropes by now.”
On Wednesday, Kylie made sure she did not make the same mistake when she stopped and chatted to fans as she made her entrance at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London for the Capital Radio Music Awards. Wearing an emerald green Emanuel Ungaro dress, Kylie was greeted with cheers and applause as she shook hands and signed dozens of autographs.
The pop diva was voted Capital Radio’s favourite international female artist and won the favourite single gong for Can’t Get You Out Of My Head “It’s been a fabulous year for me, but I’ve been so busy I’m just trying to enjoy it,” she said.
