American chat show host Rosie O’Donnell’s partner of four years, Kelli Carpenter, is expecting a baby, and it seems the presenter is over the moon about the news.
US magazine reports Rosie, who recently came out as a lesbian, couldn’t contain her happiness during her partner’s recent visit to a doctor, excitedly announcing to others in the waiting room: “My girlfriend is here – she’s pregnant!”. Kelli emerged with a printout of the ultrasound and Rosie “was all excited about it”, according to the source.
Insiders say the couple have drafted a legal agreement to co-parent the new baby when it is born. Kelli, a former executive with Nickelodeon, already has legal status as co-parent of the youngest of Rosie’s three adoptive children, two-year-old Blake, and has applied to become legal guardian of her other two kids, Parker, six, and four-year-old Chelsea.
There has been no news on the identity of the father, or when the baby is expected. A spokeswoman for the star had no comment on the news.
Rosie, who is about to end her six years as host of the popular Rosie O’Donnell Show, made her homosexuality known in March when she spoke out in favour of gay adoption. “I don’t think America knows what a gay parent looks like,” she said on the US TV programme Primetime Thursday. “I am the gay parent.”
