He’s always been on enviably good terms with his ex-wives, but now veteran rocker Rod Stewart has fallen foul of his first missus, Alana Hamilton, after failing to turn up for their son’s court hearing.
Sean, 21, is facing serious assault and drugs charges following an incident in December of last year when it is claimed he launched an unprovoked attack on a teenager, kicking him unconscious. He was found to be twice over the drink drive limit and was charged with assault. Then in March he was charged with possession of a controlled substance after being found lying unconscious outside LA club the Viper Room – where River Phoenix died of an overdose.
Alana, 56, who attended the hearing with her son, said: “Frankly, Rod should be supporting his son more. He should be here today, but as usual he wasn’t. I don’t want to say too much because it just makes me so angry. I no longer speak to Rod, although Sean is in regular contact with his father.”
The obvious rift between her and Rod comes in sharp contrast to the surprisingly cosy relationship the balladeer has had in the past with the former women in his life. There was a time when Alana and two of his other former lady loves, Kelly Emberg and Rachel Hunter, would all pitch in together to prepare a family Christmas meal at Rod’s place in Beverly Hills.
“Our son is a typical example of somebody who comes from a celebrity family whose parents got divorced,” says Alana, who also has a daughter by the singer. “When you grow up in a family where your father is not around, when the kid becomes older he can be drawn into drug and alcohol problems.”
Sean has been battling alcohol and drug problems since he was a teenager and has already done a stint at a rehabilitation centre, paid for by his father. At a court hearing on May 24 the judge sent him to a rehabilitation centre in LA while the case is pending. Another hearing is scheduled for June 25.
