Big Brother contestant Sandy Cummings has quit the UK version of the hit reality show, declaring that he was “bored” with being in the house. The bespectacled Scot climbed onto the roof of the house on Wednesday morning, only to be coaxed down by producers and eventually leave by the back door.
Denying that he was a “quitter”, the personal shopper said: “I saw a loophole in the set-up and I decided when I got bored it was time to go over the wall. It was the most exciting thing that happened in the house.”
“You have got to have some kind of stimulation and it got to the stage, if there’s no stimulation then something gives. I know I was not getting anything out of it.”
Sandy’s unexpected bid for freedom came after he had informed producers of his disenchantment, and agreed upon a convenient time for leaving the house. The departure of Sandy, who at 43 was the oldest contestant to participate in the programme, left producers with a dual dilemma: should they replace him, and what do they do with him now that he’s back on the outside?
Following his break-out, he was initially taken to a secret location to be united with his wife Claire before recording a special spin-off interview entitled Little Brother with presenter Dermot O’Leary.
Sandy was not the first participant to leave of their own accord. Twenty-five-year old Sunita Sharma, a trainee barrister, walked out of the house nearly two weeks ago. She was replaced by Sophie Pritchard. The latest house mates to be nominated for eviction are Jonny Reagan and Lee Davey.
