ART-LOVING CELEBS JET INTO LONDON FOR SERPENTINE SUMMER PARTY

Supermodel Elle Macpherson looked absolutely radiant in a chic white trouser suit when she turned up at this week’s annual summer party at London’s Serpentine Gallery. Fellow guests at the gallery, which is a contemporary art venue in Kensington Gardens, included David Bowie and his wife Iman.

Also enjoying the evening were Jade Jagger – who dropped by with her latest flame Dan Williams – Hollywood heavyweight Dustin Hoffman and Joely Richardson. Newly svelte model Sophie Dahl, who looked great in little black slit-to-the-thigh number, arrived at the party with Camilla Parker Bowles' nephew Ben Elliot, but it wasn't long before she was cutting a dash on the dance floor with Claudia Schiffer's ex Tim Jefferies.

The party is hosted in a temporary structure, the first of which was commissioned in 2000 to protect party guests from the inclemency of the British weather. That year famous faces mingled with art aficionados under Zahad Hadid’s “shelter” on the lawn. The following year it was the turn of Daniel Libeskind, the man behind the celebrated Jewish Museum in Berlin, who created a metal pavilion dubbed “a splayed crumple-zone of aluminium”.

This year the commission went to 61-year-old Japanese architect Toyo Ito who delivered a steel and glass construction reminiscent of an outsized puzzle. And, having served as a party venue, it will be used as a café for gallery goers during the day, and, in the evenings, for film screenings, a venue for talks and the BBC Poetry Prom.

The Serpentine Gallery Pavilion in Kensington gardens is open to members of the public from July 12.
