What is it with David Beckham and feet? 'Naked Chef' Jamie Oliver is hobbling about with a metatarsal injury similar to Becks's after taking delivery of a pair of the England captain's boots.
Jamie, who has a number seven Man U shirt like his hero, had bought the white Adidas Predator boots at the Beckhams' pre-World Cup party. They were among several items up for auction to raise money for the NSPCC, and, such was the appeal of Becks's cast-off footwear that they caused a full-fledged bidding war between Jamie and Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall.
Things got so heated that Becks had to step in and promise another pair of identical boots so that the bidders, who each paid £29,000 for the privilege, could take possession of his coveted footwear.
Jamie planned to display his prize in a special glass cabinet in his new London restaurant. But, shortly after they were delivered, he was playing an informal game with some friends when he sustained an injury similar to David's.
"I hit the ball on the volley and I now have the same thing as David Beckham," he admitted. Though the injury isn't as severe as David's, Jamie has got "a very bad hobble", says his spokesman. However, the chef isn't blaming the boots and says he still thinks they were "a great buy".
