Posh and Becks pay for artificial legs for a young girl

Victoria and David Beckham have donated £6,000 to buy a set of artificial legs for a brave Nottingham teenager so she can walk again. A-level student Lisa Brown, 17, had to have both her legs amputated to save her life 48 hours after contracting meningitis earlier this year.

The kindhearted celebrity couple became involved after Lisa’s friend Louie Harris wrote to tell them of her plight.

Louie, who runs a dog grooming salon where Lisa worked part-time, was really only expecting a signed photograph from the couple to cheer the teenager up. So it was a real shock when the Beckhams rang her up saying they would buy Lisa new legs.

Lisa said on Monday: “I was so stunned when I found out the Beckhams wanted to help me – it’s just unbelievable. I was so grateful to them. When I was younger you couldn’t see my wallpaper because I had so many pictures of the Spice Girls and Manchester United.”

England captain David, 27, and 28-year-old Victoria, who is expecting their second child in September, said in a statement: “We get hundreds of letters and requests for help every day – but we felt we just had to help Lisa. We feel very lucky to be in such a position.”
