Glamour model Jordan was ecstatic two months ago when she gave birth to her first child, a baby boy called Harvey. But the 24-year-old mum has now revealed she was “shattered” to learn that her tiny son may never be able to see.
“It was the worst moment of my life,” says Jordan. “I was heartbroken for him, but now I’m determined to do all I can to help him lead as normal a life as possible. He’s an amazing, beautiful boy and we’ll get through this together.”
The 24-year-old suspected there might be a problem when a midwife noticed the baby wasn’t fixing his gaze. After a number of tests, doctors discovered little Harvey’s optic nerves had not developed properly.
“I was shattered and reacted like any mum would,” says Jordan. “I burst into tears. I immediately asked if I was the cause – was my lifestyle responsible for Harvey’s blindness?” However, doctors have assured the model that the baby’s failure to develop sight was “just a terrible million to one tragedy”.
Jordan, who split with the infant’s father footballer Dwight Yorke before the birth, will soon fly to Los Angeles to see a top eye specialist, although doctors have told her that there is little chance the baby will regain his vision. “In my heart I’ve accepted there’s nothing that can be done,” she admits. “Harvey has seen the very best doctors and they’ve been very honest with me. But like any parent, I want to do all I can.”
