EastEnders’ Alex Ferns, the actor who plays Little Mo’s abusive husband Trevor Morgan, has revealed that his character is due to make a flaming exit from the series – literally. The evil wife-batterer will lose his life in a fire at his on-screen in-laws’ house.
His demise will form one of the popular soap’s most explosive episodes, says Alex. “They say it’s going to be one of the best ever. It’s going to be mind-blowing. If you think you’ve seen Trevor at his worst, you ain’t seen nothing yet.”
Filming for the sequence, which has just finished, was a demanding experience revealed the actor. “We had to do a lot of stunts and technical stuff that was really quite dangerous. It got the adrenaline running through the body. I did most of my own stunts, but there were a couple that were too dangerous.”
There had been speculation over exactly who was going to perish in the conflagration since it was revealed that two of Albert Square’s inhabitants are to be written out. A hot favourite for the axe was Irish romancer Tom, played by Colm O’Maonlai, but details on who the second character were not forthcoming. Mark Fowler and Lisa Benjamin were also favourites as the actors behind their characters, Todd Carty and Lisa Benjamin, are already known to be leaving the series.
Alex’s character has riveted TV audiences since joining EastEnders over the Christmas period two years ago, and the vicious relationship with his long suffering wife, played by co-star Kacey Ainsworth, has provided some of the show’s best storylines. The 33-year-old actor, who picked up a best soap newcomer at the TV Quick Awards this week, is “one of the best villains” the programme has ever had, says its executive producer Louise Berridge. “But he’s due his comeuppance, so Alex will be leaving.”
The new story line is likely to further boost the popularity of the soap which is already pulling in more viewers than its main rival Coronation Street.
