Rock legends Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson are set to perform together at a rare benefit performance in Los Angeles on Wednesday, the organisers of the event have announced.
The former Beatle and Beach Boy will duet on two of their best-known hits – God Only Knows from the seminal 1966 Beach Boys’ album Pet Sounds and the 1970 Beatles’ hit Let It Be.
The collaboration is part of a fund-raiser for the anti-landmines charity, Adopt A Minefield, supported by Sir Paul and his wife Heather. The duets promise to be the highlight of the show which will include separate sets of their respective works from Sir Paul and Brian, which have over the past four decades revolutionised pop music.
“Brian is a phenomenal talent; his is the only music that can reduce me to tears,” Sir Paul said in a statement issued after the two had rehearsed together for the show, which will be held in LA’s Century Plaza Hotel.
It will be the second time the two musicians perform together on the same stage, having both taken part in an all-star concert celebrating Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee, which was held in Buckingham Palace Gardens in June.
The charity event comes as the former Beatle prepares for the next leg of his US tour, which opens in Milwaukee on Saturday night.
