Imagine owning a luxury Notting Hill flat, taking a spin in your sports car – when not working out with a personal trainer, that is – jetting round the world and having VIP tickets to everything from the Cannes Film Festival to the FA Cup. The life of a Hollywood superstar, you ask? Not exactly – it’s what’s in store for the winner of BBC1’s upcoming talent show, Fame Academy.
On Wednesday, producers revealed that the top graduate of the programme, in which twelve students living in a £35 million mansion put their vocal talents to the test, will score a £1 million recording deal and all the trappings that go with stardom. Other luxuries the winner will enjoy include a personal shopper, fresh flowers delivered every week and Caribbean holidays.
They say fame is fleeting, and the same can be applied to the £500,000 worth of superstar perks. The prize only lasts one year, at which time the gifts will be taken away, leaving the aspiring pop star to survive on their own success – or lack thereof.
“The winner will have to work hard and prove they are a genuine star if they want to carry on in the music business with all the benefits that brings,” says Fame Academy executive producer Richard Hopkins. “We are giving them a head start, but we are going to take away… the fringe benefits after a year to see if they can stand on their own two feet.”
Fame Academy, presented by Cat Deely and Patrick Kielty, hits UK TV screens on October 4.
