British TV staple and former Sixties singing sensation Cilla Black plans to return to her musical roots next year to mark 40 years in show business and her 60th birthday. The Blind Date presenter says she will be teaming up with boy band Blue, who are to sing backing vocals on the new disc after appearing on a celebrity version of her hit TV show.
“They’ve promised to be my backing singers on one or two tracks on my new album and I’m very excited about it,” says the flame-haired presenter of her new chums Duncan, Anthony, Simon and Lee. Cilla is planning to reprise some of her key hits from her heyday, including Anyone Who Had A Heart and You’re My World, by recording dance versions of the tunes. The ever-youthful star is also planning to tour with her new sound next year. The concerts will culminate with a charity gig at either the London Palladium of the Albert Hall.
As for who her audiences are going to be, Cilla has a few specific ideas of her own. “I want to tour a few universities because kids who come on Blind Date haven’t got a clue that in my day I used to be – dare I say it – the Madonna of the Sixties. “There’s a whole new generation who follow me on the telly but don’t know about my singing. It’ll be fun. I’m a rock’n’roller. I still love rock’n’roll,” she adds.
