Just two weeks ago, Cold Feet actor John Thomson announced he was leaving the volatile relationship with pregnant girlfriend Sam Sharpe so his unborn child could "arrive into a calm environment". However, the two decided to make the peace on Thursday – albeit temporarily – so the actor could be present as the couple's baby girl was brought into the world.
Twenty-nine-year-old Sam gave birth to 6lb 6oz Olivia Jayne by elective caesarean, accompanied by her former boyfriend of two years. "John was present at the birth," confirmed the TV star's spokesperson. "They are not back together, but this has nothing to do with the past – it was about the baby. "
Though the new parents once planned a spring wedding, a break-up came soon after the actor reportedly flew into a drunken rage at the couple's Manchester home in October, leading his eight months' pregnant fiancée to phone the police.
The birth of the baby seems to bring the drama somewhat to a close. John, who has stressed that he will support and be fully involved with little Olivia Jayne, is "delighted" with the new arrival and mum and baby are also said to be "doing well".
