Tennis star Serena William is moving to Hollywood in the hope of developing her career as an actress. The reigning Wimbledon champion has bought a luxury $1.4 million condominium in order to be closer to the entertainment industry.

The 21-year-old has also hired an acting teacher and has already made her small screen debut, playing a kindergarten teacher in the ABC sitcom My Wife and Kids. “I’ve never considered tennis as my only outlet,” she said recently. “I always liked doing different things when I was younger. I just never really liked focussing on tennis. I see my self as a crossover.”

She has also signed with the William Morris Agency which represents comedian Damon Wayans. “I’ve had lots of acting opportunities. It’s just that the other career I have – that other small career – is putting a hindrance on my acting,” jokes Serena, who has won the last three major tennis titles.

Her older sister, who has herself won four grand slams, may be able to help her sibling decorate her new LA home. Twenty-two-year-old Venus launched her interior design and decorating company, V Starr Interiors, last November.

Venus’ flair for design would no doubt give the perfect finish to the luxury 2,000-square foot apartment. Serena’s older sister studied Fashion Design and Art at the Institute of Fort Lauderdale in Florida and has created designs for the Wilson Leather clothing line.
