Following a working relationship lasting more than 30 years, opera singer Luciano Pavarotti and his manager and publicist Herbert Breslin have decided to go their separate ways. "We've had enough. I've had enough," said Mr Breslin. "We no longer work for each other."
The two first teamed up in 1967, six years after the Italian star made his professional debut, and Breslin is credited with having helped bring the legendary opera star a following outside the confines of traditional classical music. Sell-out concerts and a host of TV appearances followed.
But in recent years, the artist, who has announced that he plans to retire on his 70th birthday in 2005, has made fewer and fewer full-scale opera appearances. His last was in a Royal Opera House production of Tosca in January 2002.
Pavarotti next major appearance will take place in September when he teams up once more with Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras for a Three Tenors concert in the US. The event had originally been due to take place this month, but was rescheduled in order not to clash with the arrival of the latest addition to the artist's family – he is expecting twins with his 32-year-old partner Nicoletta Mantovani.
