DISGUISED ANT AND DEC AUDITION FOR 'AMERICAN IDOL'

When a pair of long-haired siblings from Denver sang an off-key rendition of Paula Abdul's hit Opposites Attract in an audition for a US Pop Idol spin-off, judge Simon Cowell thought it was just another example of bad talent.

But the aspiring pop stars were British TV presenters Ant and Dec, showing off flawless American accents and more than a little cheek as they infiltrated the popular talent programme's selection process in Texas.

Performing for Simon and two other American Idol judges, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, the bearded Bill and Ted knockoffs were well into their performance and had launched into a jaw-dropping dance routine before anyone caught on to the hoax. "Oh my God, I don't ****ing believe it," Simon exclaimed when the not-so-talented twosome revealed their true identities.

"Simon said afterwards he'd thought, 'Hey, this guy looks a little bit like Ant', but he never thought it would be us," recalled Ant. And as far as their outrageous costumes, he added: "We thought we looked ridiculous until we saw some of the other people there to audition."

The stunt will air on Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, which returns to British TV for a second series this weekend.
