Nearly one year has passed since legendary entertainer Liza Minnelli married David Gest in a star-studded New York ceremony, with Liz Taylor as bridesmaid and Michael Jackson as best man. And for their first anniversary celebrations in April, Liza and David plan to splash out upwards of £3 million in the hope of making the occasion as memorable as the day they wed.
The lavish Big Apple bash will cost £500,000 more than their high-profile nuptials, which was attended by 500 larger-than-life guests including Sir Anthony Hopkins, Diana Ross and Lauren Bacall. "This party is to celebrate that beautiful day, so it has to be just as special," says David.
No details about the event have been released, but performances by top names in music, including Queen's Brian May, are said to be part of the entertainment line-up.
In addition to her upcoming anniversary, Liza has other big plans this year. The 56-year-old Cabaret star is in talks to play the leading lady in a big screen version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard. She is said to have beaten out fellow show biz veterans Barbra Streisand and Bette Midler to become front-runner for the part.
