Mel C has scotched rumours of a Spice Girls reunion, saying that a meeting with her former bandmates on Monday was "just to catch up". The singer said she would have walked out of the get-together at Victoria Beckham's Hertfordshire home if such a plan had been suggested.
There was widespread speculation that the girls were meeting up to plan a greatest hits album and reunion concert. Mel has insisted, however, that she only met up with Posh, Scary, Baby and Ginger because they hadn't seen each other for such a long time.
"It was just a friendly get together, it was just a social thing, and none of us are interested in getting back together, none of us are interested in a reunion," she said. "We didn't discuss the Greatest Hits. It was just to catch up and that's it. That is the God's honest truth - I swear on my mother's life."
"I think if a reunion had been raised at the dinner I would have left because I'm absolutely not interested, and I don't think any of them are either."
Geri Halliwell, Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton and Melanie Chisholm became one of the most successful pop outfits in history after they rose to fame in 1996 with the single Wannabe.
The band later split to pursue solo careers, though none of them managed the same level of success they had enjoyed with The Spice Girls. In 1998 Geri Halliwell became the first member to leave the group, amid rumours of an acrimonious split. While their dinner on Monday may not signify a Spice comeback, it would seem to mark the end of the rift between Ginger the rest of the girls.
