Victoria Beckham has agreed to pay £55,000 in damages to two shop owners she publicly accused of selling a fake autographed photo of her husband, superstar footballer David Beckham.
As part of the settlement, the former Spice Girl has also issued an apology to Timothy and Glynis McManus, who filed a High Court slander suit after Victoria openly accused them of peddling a fake Becks signature during a visit to their GT's Recollections store in southern England. After several customers heard the accusations, the story was picked up by local and national newspapers. The pair decided to take the issue to court, claiming their business and reputation were nearly ruined by the coverage.
"My client apologises for the hurt and damage which the claimants have suffered," said Victoria's counsel Justin Rushbrooke. "Mrs Beckham happily accepts that the McManuses are honest and reputable traders and seek to obtain their memorabilia from respected sources."
An attorney for the McManus family said the two were pleased with the outcome of the settlement, and the "good-natured approach" in which it was met.
