Superstar actresses Nicole Kidman and Catherine Zeta-Jones came out on top in our recent readers poll, which asked the question: Who do you think should win an Oscar?
Nearly two-thirds of those who logged on to vote said Nicole deserved the coveted best actress statuette, while 40 per cent opined that Catherine's work in Chicago was worthy of a best supporting actress Oscar. And it seems the Academy agreed: the two gorgeous screen stars took home the gold on Sunday night.
However, hellomagazine.com readers' favourites didn't fare so well in other major categories. For best actor, voters declared that Adaptation's Nicolas Cage merited the gong. Of course, at the ceremony, Nic went home empty-handed – the actor who came in fourth out of five in our poll, Adrien Brody, was the surprise winner.
Predictions were similarly off the mark in other races. Two shortlisters who came in last place in our poll, supporting actor nominee Chris Cooper and best director nominee Roman Polanski, won awards, with hellomagazine.com winners, The Hours Ed Harris and director Martin Scorsese, losing out.
Similarly, nearly one-third of voters thought The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers was the best film of the year. Chicago, the movie that scooped the prestigious prize on Oscar night, was a close second in our poll.
