Catherine Zeta-Jones and Melinda Messenger have been voted Britain's most impressive mums. Melinda beat off competition from Victoria Beckham, Liz Hurley and the Queen to be voted Mum of the Year in a poll by sweet brand Quality Street, while Catherine took the top spot as the UK's sexiest mother. "I'm delighted that the public have voted for me," said Swindon-born Melinda after hearing the news. "It's an honour to beat the Queen, who I've never competed against for an award!"

David Beckham's wife Victoria came in at second position, while Jamie Oliver's wife Jools was third. The prize celebrates celebrity mothers who manage to juggle the demands of parenthood with successful show biz careers.

Melinda was narrowly defeated in another poll, however, which asked the public to vote for Britain's sexiest mum. Welsh-born star Catherine Zeta-Jones took that prize, with Liz Hurley in second position and model Kate Moss in third.

The actress proved that stardom and maternity can indeed go together when she performed at the Oscar ceremony despite being heavily pregnant. And as if further proof of her winning ways was necessary, she also took home the best supporting actress gong.

Catherine is expecting her second child with husband Michael Douglas any day now, while Melinda has two sons, one-year-old Flynn and Morgan, two.
