Yoko Ono has good reason to celebrate after topping the charts with a song she recorded over 20 years ago.

Her dance track Walking On Thin Ice was originally recorded during the sessions for 1980's Double Fantasy, which was her last album with husband John Lennon. And the track has special significance for Yoko, as John was carrying the master copy when he was gunned down outside their New York home that same year.

It was popular in underground clubs at the time, but never made an significant impression on the charts. Her iconic partner apparently predicted it would one day make its mark, however. "John said to me back then, 'You know this is going to be your first Number One'," said Yoko. "He just didn't say when."

The remixed version of Walking On Thin Ice, on which John plays guitar, has now gone to number one in the Billboard dance charts, outselling tracks by Christina Aguilera, Anastacia and Justin Timberlake.

Yoko reveals that over the years she has turned down many requests from producers who wanted to remix the track. "It brought back such memories. I just didn't want to touch it," she said.

A collaboration of top dance acts, including Danny Tenaglia, Felix da Housecat and the Pet Shop Boys, finally convinced her to change her mind, however. And she seems delighted with the results. "This was a healthy thing for me, to finally let it out of my hands… I have to be the first 70-year-old to go number one - I should call the Guinness Book Of World Records."
