Vinnie Jones apparently lived up to his tough guy reputation when he became embroiled in a row on a flight to Japan.

The soccer ace-turned-actor was travelling in the first class cabin of the Virgin Atlantic plane when the incident took place. According to newspaper reports, he was talking with a group of other passengers at the in-flight bar, but became abusive when a woman with the party decided to return to her seat.

Vinnie followed her back to where she was sitting, and when her male companion tried to intervene, he apparently grabbed him by the throat and threatened him. A member of the cabin crew then attempted to defuse the situation, but the former athlete told him to "go and pour the coffee like you're paid to".

Eventually, the woman and her companion agreed to move into the economy class cabin to avoid the situation. It is not known whether they will be refunded the £3,000 difference in the price of their tickets. A spokesperson for Virgin Atlantic has meanwhile confirmed that there was an incident between two passengers, but declined to go into details.

During his time as a footballer, Vinnie became well-known for his aggressive style of play, which garnered him 12 red cards over the course of his career. He also holds the record for quickest ever yellow card - just three seconds into a match.
