The Beckhams are continuing their publicity drive across the pond, but it would seem that not everyone stateside has become familiar with Britain's favourite couple.
Staff at posh LA department store Fred Segal were unconvinced of the Beckhams' megastar status when the couple arrived to do a spot of shopping. David and Victoria apparently spent 30 minutes trying to persuade shop assistants to lock the doors so they could browse in peace. Eventually the manager had to be called and their request was granted, though the couple didn't stay for long anyway.
"The staff didn't have a clue who they were," said one onlooker. "They argued for about half an hour before the owner agreed to lock the doors."
The England skipper and his pop star wife can look forward to a major profile boost when they appear on the cover of American Vogue in September, however. The couple were photographed by legendary fashion snapper Mario Testino last Friday and the magazine's editor, Anna Wintour, hosted a dinner for them with David Bowie and Calvin Klein both in attendance.
David and Victoria have meanwhile received some less cheery news from home, as the trial of five men accused of trying to kidnap Victoria collapsed. The suspects were acquitted after the court heard that a tabloid newspaper paid a petty criminal £10,000 to set them up.
