Fans of TV soap EastEnders last saw tormented on-screen mum Lisa Fowler – played by Lucy Benjamin – distraught on a Portugal cliff top after dastardly Phil Mitchell plucked baby daughter Louise from her arms.
But now, months into the character's sudden disappearance – and despite Phil's warning she should never return to Walford – writers have decided to reintroduce Lisa to the show. Watchers can expect a dramatic storyline in which she fights to get her child back. "Lisa loves Louise more than anything – and there's going to be fireworks between her and Phil," said an EastEnders spokesperson.
Thirty-two-year-old actress Lucy, who originally joined the cast in 1998, is looking forward to the new plotline. "I couldn't believe it when I got a call to ask if I would return to Walford," she said. "I didn't think Lisa would give up baby Lou without one last fight."
Meanwhile, romance seems to be blossoming in real life for some of the EastEnders cast. Lucy and Steve McFadden, the actor who plays Phil, have apparently rekindled their off-screen relationship, which ended earlier this year. And co-star Nicholas Bailey, also known as Albert Square's Dr Trueman, popped the question to his girlfriend Lisa Fratta while on holiday in Mexico two weeks ago.
