Ginger radio whiz Chris Evans was described as "petulant" and "sulky" by the judge who threw out his £8.6 million claim against Virgin Radio this week.
And the onslaught didn't stop there. In ruling on the case which could cost the media mogul £20 million, Mr Justice Lightman went on to brand Evans a "prima donna" and "a liar", adding that he was "any management's nightmare".
In a damning 44-page document the judge ruled that Evans had repeatedly breached the terms of his contract and behaved in an arrogant manner. The former radio star continued to present his show after selling Ginger Media Group – which included Virgin radio - for £225 million to Scottish Media Group. Within months he was at loggerheads with his new bosses, however. "He could never acclimatise to a more subordinate role. He has the temperament of a prima donna," said the judge.
Following his sacking from the station for failure to turn up following several drinking binges, Evans claimed he was entitled to £8.6 million – the value of share options he says should have been paid to him when he was let go.
The 36-year-old, who is married to pop singer Billie Piper, reportedly burst into tears upon hearing of the result. He was calmer, however, when asked for his reaction as he left the Channel 5 studios where he currently works as a producer. "Of course I'm a bit disappointed, but philosophical about it," he said.
In addition to being liable for estimated costs of £4 million, Evans could also find himself paying out several additional million - plus further legal costs - to Virgin Radio, which has been given permission to seek damages against him.
