Shagadelic star Mike Myers was among a roster of 11 Canadians to be inducted into the Canadian Walk of Fame in Toronto this week. The Austin Powers actor was joined by fellow honourees supermodel Linda Evangelista, radiant in a 1930s-influenced peach-coloured gown, and Ontario songstress Shania Twain, who wore a pink sequined number, at the ceremony in Toronto's Roy Thomson Hall.
It is the first year all those being honoured have attended. Also receiving stars were NHL coach Scotty Bowman, figure skater Toller Cranston, Olympic equestrian Jim Elder, and comedian-actor-director David Steinberg. Established five years ago, the series of sidewalk plaques which runs through Toronto's theatre district, celebrates the country's best in the fields of art, entertainment and sport.
Mike, who was accompanied by members of his family, declared his love for Toronto and the suburb of Scarborough in which he grew up. "I love it and it's just the greatest city in the world," he said.
Earlier in the day, the comedian, who shot to fame after appearing on the popular US show Saturday Night Live, had struggled to retain his composure at a ceremony in which he had a street named after him.
He was also presented with the keys to the city by City Hall. Linda Evangelista, who hails from St Catherine's Ontario, was similarly emotional at the unveiling of her star. "I never thought I would end up here. In my wildest dreams, I never thought that."
