The woman who created Harry Potter has said she would like to make herself invisible so that she could go back to writing incognito in cafes, and has caused consternation among her young fans by suggesting that she may kill off her captivating hero.
After giving a special reading from her latest book in London's imposing Albert Hall, which had been decorated to resemble Hogwarts School, J K Rowling revealed during a question session that she found it "scary" being so much in the limelight.
And the 4,000 young fans at the reading were horrified when she answered one question about Harry's future by saying,"You'll have to wait and see whether he survives to become a grown-up. I'm not saying he won't, but I don't want to give anything away at this point."
The reluctant celebrity and mother of two, who has just made history after her latest book became the fastest-selling ever in the UK, has also rubbished recent reports that she is now richer than the Queen. "I certainly have not got £280 million," she said firmly.
