A host of celebrity dog-lovers have gone walkies in London in a bid to raise money for charity.

Radio 1 DJ Sara Cox was among the famous faces who brought their beloved pooches along to compete in Macmillan Dog Day at the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Her furry friend Snoop was just one of the canine contestants vying for glory in categories like waggiest tail and most elegant pooch.

Renowned actress Miranda Richardson also came along with her four-legged friend Liv, as did It-girl Tamara Beckwith and designer Bruce Oldfield. And the owners of Britain's most glamorous pets got a chance to avail themselves of some professional grooming advice, as Dan Thomas – coiffeur to Geri Halliwell's dog Harry – was on hand to make sure noone put a paw wrong.

"As a nation of dog lovers we often treat our pets as another member of the family," said milliner Philip Treacy, whose terrier Mr Pig is a constant companion. "So it's only natural to want to spoil them and show them off every once in a while." The inimitable designer had come along to judge one of the day's main events, The Mad Hatter's Dog Party.

All money raised by the furry fundraiser is destined for the Macmillan Cancer Relief charity.
