Singer Kym Marsh and her husband of nearly one year, former EastEnders star Jack Ryder are taking a trial separation, citing the pressures of work as the cause of their split.
While ex-Hear'Say vocalist Kym, 27, has been travelling around Europe promoting her debut solo album Standing Tall, her 21-year-old husband has put his career on the back burner in favour of caring for her two children, aged seven and five, from a previous relationship.
The celebrity pair released a statement on Monday, announcing "with sadness and regret" that they were splitting up with hopes of one day resolving their differences.
"Over the past couple of months we have experienced some turbulence in our relationship," read the statement. "This, together with work commitments, has added an even greater strain on the marriage.
"The decision to spend some time apart has been made mutually and amicably and our number one priority is to preserve the marriage and to consider the children. Hopefully with this time and space we will be able to sort out our differences and repair our relationship."
Kym recently acknowledged that distance has taken its toll on the high profile marriage. "For the past few months I've been away for days on end," she said. "We wind up rowing on the phone – the only way we can communicate."
